Peter Nolan Smith walked into the Club 57 Art Show and took a seat at the bar. He came with a large suitcase. He ordered a drink, drank it down and ordered another one. He opened the suitcase, took out a series of black and white photographs and got down to business. People started to gather out of curiosity. Peter was on a mission. He started showing photos of people who were involved with Club 57 and who are no longer with us. He did this to keep their spirits alive and to somehow make them be a part of this gathering. Here he is showing a photo of Andy Rees. Andy was manager of Club 57 for a period of time and brought a lot of fun theatre productions to Club 57. Andy Rees was a great theatre artist. He wrote, directed, choreographed, produced. He was a key player in Club 57. He is certainly missed. It is a photo of Andy with a gun. Why? I am sure this photo has a story and this is the story that Peter shared with us, but I would certainly like to know more! The photo comes from a series of shots by photographer Anthony Scibelli. A wordless photo-roman with Andy Rees, Clover Nolan, Klaus Nomi, Cookie Mueller and several other figurants. Anthony got an opening of the photographs in Bridgewater. Peter and the other people in the photographs were all supposed to go, but none of them had a place to stay or the money for the train. Peter still has all the photos. Peter said that this photo was of Andy Rees playing a guard for the Ball of Eternity.
Alexa Hunter looks on while sitting next to Peter. Both are featured in the Club 57 portraits series on this site. Alexa was in many amazing bands in New York such as Disturbed Furniture and is a well respected actress. She is also a teacher, writer, singer, mother and artist, not necessarily in that order. She presently lives in L.A. and shops in New York.
