The deadly duo of William "Bill" Love and Angel Eyedealism. It was getting to be late at night and people were letting loose. Bill was one of the first people I had met when I moved to New York. I first met Stephanie Kaye and then she introduced me to Bill. He came to New York from Seattle via Albany (for 7 months to become a hairdresser). I recall seeing him cut various people's hair in The Mudd Club toilets. I don't think that did much to advance him in his career as a hairdresser, but he certainly had fun doing it! Bill DJ'd a handful of times upstairs at the Mudd Club. His best mix was the Singing Nun's "Dominica" into "Tubular Bells" (the theme from the Exorcist). His worst recollection was when Steve Mass asked him to DJ an afternoon teen birthday party for Blondie's manager's son. The party goers were relentless, badgering Bill to play Devo's "Whipp It" et nauseum! After the umpteenth time, when he finally refused. The mother came into the DJ booth and barked in a very distinctive Long Island Jewish accent, "It's my son's party AND I SAY PLAY WHIPP IT!!"
Bill was introduced to Club 57 by Janice of Klaus Nomi, on Monster Movie Club night, where he became a regular. He loved the field trip to the Haunted Mansion on the Long Branch amusement Pier. He escaped New York for awhile to be a model in Milan. Upon his return to New York, he entered the world of cabaret and created his infamous creation Jasmine Allspice (a surrealistic Doris Day drag character) and performed at the Pyramid Club, ABC No Rio, The Boy Bar and many other downtown New York places. Bill was in the hit Off Off Broadway musical called "Nose Job (She had to model)" He played a 17 year old Barbizon graduate from Long Island named Tara Felchberger, who had an unsightly big nose and believed her Barbizon degree was a ticket to stardom. Bill also wrote and directed the musical, which was an ode to his modeling experience. Bill continued playing Jasmine Allspice as "The Inner City Avon Lady" at Wigstock and went into stand up comedy with other creative characters as well. Bill presently lives in Miami working in the field of medicine. He speaks five languages and travels regularly to Brazil. He is also known as a Karaoke terrorist. He goes throughout Florida to various Karaoke venues, where he provocatively changes the lyrics to the shock and horror of the locals.
I first met Angel in New York quite awhile ago. I met her again when she was living in Prague. I have been living in Prague for a number of years. Then she moved to Berlin (my second home) to perform there and to make it a base for doing her performances throughout Europe. I was back in New York to do the art show and there is Angel back living in New York doing what she does best. All of this somehow completes a full circle.
How to describe Angel and what she does? She has been called a larger-than-life, drag queen with classically trained, five-octave range vocals. She has an intense, emotional, theatrical performance, set to spiraling trip-hop beats. But she is no drag queen. She is a real woman of substance beneath all the charismatic style. And with her debut album Aggressive Cheesecake, she has proven her worth as an artist poised for international success. Angel is also a well known astrologer and tarot card reader.
