Lina Bertucci was my saviour in New York! She first gave me expert advise regarding the photographs that I was organizing to show at the Club 57 Art Show. We made plans to meet when I arrived in New York to go over what we were both going to show at the art show. When I arrived at JFK, I was a bit tired after a 7 hour flight from Prague. I soon found out that I had a problem when I went to the bankomat to get some dollars. For whatever reason, my card did not work and I was stuck at the airport without a dollar to my name. I called Lina on my Prague mobile and she told me to get a shuttle car to the city and that she would lend me the money till I sorted things out. True to her word, she met me and payed the driver. I sorted out the bankomat thing. There was also difficulties with putting together the art show. I was one of the curators and the other curator was ill. Lina gave me a lot of support and help during those days and is now a good friend.
I remember Lina in the days of Club 57 taking photos. She is a photographer and video artist who lives and works in New York City. Last year she premiered her new video, "18 Beautiful Women" at the Miami International Film Festival in the Cutting Edge Section and Exhibition. The video installation and her photographic series "Women in the Tattoo Subculture" was shown at the Eleni Koroneou Gallery in Athens and the Perry Rubnestein Gallery in New York.
She is most noted for her portraits of emerging artists starting from the early 1990's. Some most memorable images are of young Matthew Barney, Elizabeth Peyton, John Curin, Gabreille Orozsco, which was also was as shown in New York at the Perry Rubenstein Gallery. Lina is also represented by the Rhona Hoffman Gallery in Chicago and received her Masters of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in New York.
