Foxes and winding path

Kyoto is an amazing city with many shrines and temples. This is the entrance to a long path that winds up a hill leading to several shrines. Notice the statues of the foxes in front. You know what that means, don't you? I loved Kyoto and need to go back there. I want to go back there and get lost.

Blue hair

Harajuku is an area between Shinjuku and Shibuya in Tokyo. It is known to be a place famous for street fashion and shopping. Every Sunday, young people are dressed in a variety of styles such as: gothic lolita, visual kei, decora, and cosplayers spend the day in Harajuku socializing. Cosplay is more of a costume-based style. A cosplay enthusiast will usually dress as a fictional or iconic character from a band, game, movie, anime, or manga. Many prominent designers and fashion ideas have sprung from Harajuku and incorporated themselves into other fashions throughout the world.

I went there several Sundays to see what I could capture. I liked the mix/mish-mash of various styles thrown together. I liked the effort that some put into there Sunday outings.

Jason Atomic vs Rockin’JellyBean

I had the pleasure and privilege to film and photograph two of my favorite artists sketch each other. It was kind of a fun competition to see who could sketch each other the quickest. I captured it on film for the Koy documentary. I was allowed into Rockin’JellyBean’s secret Osaka hideout to document this event. Here we have Jason Atomic in full sketch gear standing next to the portrait sketch that Rockin’JellyBean did of him.

Neko at Tokyo Joe’s

Syu Starrider took me to this bar late one night. It was called Tokyo Joe’s. I took this photo of the friendly owner, Neko (which tranlates to cat in English) He is a character actor frequently appearing on tv, movies, stage plays & musicals.

Syu Starrider

This is a photo that I took of Syu Starrider. He is living with Koy and is her best friend. I filmed him, of course for the documentary. He took me out for a night out on the town. I took this photo of him at the place where we ate some really good food. He then took me to the bar Tokyo Joe’s and I don’t remember much after that.

Let me tell you about him: Syu Starrider, a Japanese Motorcycle Boy. He has greased back hair and wears leather jackets like religion, even in hot summers. Initially a romantic pairing (with Koy), they carved out a rock and roll reputation for themselves as a couple destined for adventure. Splitting up as lovers they rearranged themselves into friends and now consider each other family.

It beautiful uses it.

I have to admit that I love Tokyo/Japanese toilets. I find them fascinating. Look at this one. Well, read the sign anyway. This was a public toilet in a children's toy shop.
